History

Linette was born in Nepean, Ontario, Canada. She had a normal childhood with cuts, scrapes and illnesses a kid dealt with. However, she grew up with three older brothers who were determined that their baby sister would not go out in the world and not know how to defend herself. As she grew up, it was found out that she was interested in working with tools. Instead of discouraging her in her interest Her brother Murrough, took her under his wing and had the patience to teach her stuff. She did have quite the varied education. From her father she learned wilderness survival, as he was a Park Ranger. From her mother she learned to cook, sew and how to run a household. Her mother called it domestic survival. Linette had a well rounded education at home. She was a good student, kept up with her studies. Plus she liked to tinker alot. One day her brother brought home an old Indian 1942 Scout 500 motorcycle all beat up and with patches of rust. He gave it to Linette and said “Let’s see what you can do with this.” Linette was ecstatic and became engrossed in putting it back together and fixing it up. Having that motorcycle to tinker with turned out to be a sanity saver. Later on in her life. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:1942_Indian_Scout_500cc_v_twin_2.jpg
When Linette was sixteen she started working at her brother Murrough's garage, part time after school. one day she got a call from her brother asking her to finish fixing up a car, for a customer. He was at the hospital, with his wife, who was in labor.Linette had no problem with that and proceeded to take care of things. While she was under the car, she felt someone kick the bottom of her work boots. She grunted at the person and continued her work.

“Hey, Murrough! Whatcha doing under there, sleeping?”

The guy asked kicking at the boots again thinking them to be Murrough’s.

Linette, irritated at the rudeness of the stranger, came out from under the car very quickly.

“Listen you, rude person. How am I supposed to finish this for Murrough when you kick my boots! Murrough is not here, he is at the hospital waiting for his baby to be born. You go away and come back later!” she snarled at what appeared to be someone three years older than her.

The guy's mouth dropped open, not expecting to see a girl in a mechanic’s outfit, in fact a rather cute girl, coming out from under the car instead of Murrough. He just stared at Linette who pushed him out the door, locked the place up and then went back to work. He left still dumbfounded at the meeting.Unknown to Linette it was the younger brother of a friend, Murrough had hired to help out. When Murrough called to check on things at the garage,Linette told Murrough the story of the rude person, she had encountered Murrough wondered to himself if it was Philip Geraud, his friend's younger brother. Just as he was about to ask, Linette interrupted.

"Sorry Murrough, that person I was telling you about has returned again!" she stated.

"Linette, I've got something to tell you-" Murrough said trying to tell her about the new employee he had hired.

Linette had all ready set the phone down and went to confront the rude person.

"Excuse me, what are you doing here? Trying to kick my boots again? I suggest you go away until Murrough returns. I won't tolerate rude people hanging around here, when I need to work." Linette said gruffly.

Philip tried to explain but decided to leave when Linette picked up a 48" open ended wrench and moved towards him.The girl looked like she was capable in using it as a weapon. He left but only for a few minutes, he thought he'd approach to leave a note for Murrough.

Linette went back to the phone and told Murrough that the rude person returned. Murrough asked if Linette had bothered to ask the person's name. she told him that she hadn't. Then Murrough told her about the guy he had hired, and described the rude person, she had booted off the property again. Linette's face turned red, and spotted Philip coming to the garage once more.He had decided that the spitfire wasn't going to keep him from his job. She let Murrough know that Philip had returned. finding out his name, Linette handed the phone to Philip and then slunk away home, feeling rather embarrassed.

Later on she received some white roses, finding out it was Philip who had sent them she almost threw them away, but her mother stopped her, letting her know there was a note attached. Linette read the note finding out the roses were an apology.

One of her friend's was hosting a party and had invited Linette to come. Linette thought of not going but her mother shooed her off, stating that it would give her some time alone with her father. Linette agreed to go, it was there she saw Philip again. He walked up and asked her to dance. Linette felt her friend give her a gentle push towards Philip and they danced. After the first intial awkwardness, Linette found herself liking PHilip. finding out they had some similar interests a friendship developed ,then it blossomed into a romance. Two years later, Linette and Philip get married, then travelled to the United States where Philip's brother had a garage in Rockville, MD. Samuel owned a garage, and wanted Philip to help run it. Philip was delighted and accepted the job offer. several years later, Philip became partners with Samuel. and Linette helped out with it as well. Linette and Philip weren't able to have children for a few years, then one day they got a surprise, she found out she was pregnant. It was a happy occasion, and after a month and when they were certain, they let her parents know they were going to be grandparents.Everyone was thrilled.

It was April, when Linette was six months along, that tragedy struck.Linettes parents lived just outside of town and there was a ditch on the right and several roads going to the left from the road they were on. Just as they turned around the corner and headed up the small hill Linette was taken into the hospital in the throes of premature labor, they were unable to stop the contractions and she gave birth to a baby girl ,whom she and Philip had decided earlier to name her, Melinda. Linette was told that Melinda hadn’t much longer to live, due to injuries suffered from the accident. Linette begged to hold Melinda, even if for a short time. The doctors were reluctant to let her do so, but her parents insisted that she was allowed to, and the doctor agreed. Linette held Melinda close, as her parents and Philip's parents kissed their grand daughter goodbye. Linette sang her little one a lullaby, rocking her gently, Melinda fell asleep and passed away, held in her mother's arms.

“May God keep you in his arms, my little one” Linette whispered as she felt Melinda’s heart cease to beat. She held Melinda a few moments more, kissed her little fingers, then gently she handed Melinda to the nurse who carried the little one away, tears falling down her face.

Linette asked,” Where is Philip, I need to see him, I need to tell him of our daughter. I know he was hurt, but I need to see him.”

Philip's parents, and Linette's parents looked at each other, there was a moment of silence, then her mother sat down beside her on the bed.

“My little wren.... Philip will not be able to be here.... “ She buried her face in her hands, not able to go on.

Linette looked at her mother and the others, noticing their faces, the tears in their eyes Her father walked over and held her close.

With a voice filled with emotion he said. “Philip died on the operating table, just a few moments ago”

Linette pushed him away, to get up from the hospital bed. “No... He can’t be...no.. no... Melinda...Philip..... “

She took a few steps from the bed then collapsed, into a dead faint. Her father caught her and carried her back to the bed. Linette woke up a few hours later, the doctors told her that she will be in the hospital for a few more days. Linnet numbly nodded, not much of an expression on her face. The doctors told her parents that she was very lucky to have suffered only minor injuries from the crash.

“I think that Phillipe’s quick thinking in turning the car away from the other car saved her life. It is unfortunate she lost her baby and her husband in one day” The doctor mentioned to the parents. Linette is quiet through the rest of her hospital stay, only answering when spoken to, she signed the necessary papers. Linette is released from the hospital in time to make preparations for Philip and Melinda’s funeral . She insisted on Melinda to be buried with Philip in the same casket..

“Philip didn’t get to hold her when she was born. I want him to hold her now, so that she will never be alone.” she said in a matter of fact voice.

Linette watched as the casket is lowered into the ground, then watched as it is covered in dirt. With each shovelful of dirt landing on the coffin, Linette's grief is buried as well. She doesn’t cry when it is time to leave, and she didn’t cry during the service. Afterwards, Linette roamed around her parents house for a month or more, going about doing chores with a fierce determination. Her parents had never seen the house so spotless and in such good repair. Her brothers and her friends try to get her to relax but she won’t do it.. Then one day Linette received a call from Samuel, wanting to know what to do about the garage and her Indian, that seemed to get a response from her.

Linette went back to Rockville, Maryland to run the garage again. She threw herself into her work. She got the garage back on it’s feet and hired some employee’s, and also worked on her Indian which needed attention. Linette doesn’t talk about Philip or Melinda’s death to anyone, which worried her family, it wasn't good to shut things up inside like that. A year later, after she was finished working on her Indian, Linette packed some stuff together, hitched a trailor she had made to take things with her, on her Indian, told Samuel she'd be back in about three months, and took to the roads to give her Indian a good run. During those three months, she stopped to help travelers who had car troubles. She also stopped and helped people out on odd jobs, fixing different things about their place, then headed back down the road. When she helped people, she never took a dime, just asked that they paid it forward. She camped at local campgrounds, in a tent she took with her on the trailor, showered at the campgrounds then moved on. She enjoyed travelling though with the wind in her face, and meeting the different various people on the way.

Linette never went anywhere unprotected her constant companion was the 48" open ended wrench, which she named Henrie' (she pronounces it Onery), There were many a time when Henrie' helped her out of situations. Another thing she took with her was her bowie knife named Clara. Its something she became skilled at in using, so she felt she was capable in taking care of herself. Also it didn't hurt to know how to do different things with odds and ends, and with the training she received from her brothers, she was certainly prepared for protecting herself. Another thing she took with her was a cellphone to check in with Samuel as he wanted to make certain she was safe. Linette had rolled her eyes on that one but, she understood. she periodically checked in with Samuel and the rest of her family. They weren't too happy with her being on the road like that, but, Linette told them flat out she needed to do some soul searching and felt the travelling would do her some good. With her being so determined, they didn't argue with her for very long.

Her three month road trip, made her realize there was still more to see but that had to wait. It was time to head for her parents place for her dad's birthday, plus, she needed to head back to Rockville,MD as Samuel wanted his turn for a vacation.
